The State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials of Jilin University and the School of Mathematics and Physics of CUG co-hosted the 9th Workshop on CALYPSO from October 16 to 18. In the workshop, 24 invited guests made presentations, and over 150 experts and scholars attended in person. The workshop also had over 12,000 views on the livestreaming platform.

MA Yanming, Leader of Developers Group of CALYPSO and Vice President of Jilin University, makes an opening speech
CALYPSO (Crystal structure AnaLYsis by Particle Swarm Optimization) is an efficient structure prediction method and its same-name computer software. The approach requires only chemical compositions for a given compound to predict stable or metastable structures at given external conditions (e.g., pressure), thus the CALYPSO package can be used to predict/determine the crystal structure and design the multi-functional materials (e.g., superhard). CALYPSO is one of the widely used structure prediction methods. CALYPSO users are currently beyond 3,200, spreading out over 73 countries.
The goal of this workshop was to bring together the experts in the field of structure prediction and CALYPSO users to discuss the latest progress of CALYPSO method, and its applications. It is also a unique opportunity for the CALYPSO users to learn more details on how to perform the structure searching as well as how to design novel functional materials.
