CUG Professor Wins 2019 Chinese Government Friendship Award

On September 30, the Ceremony of the Chinese Government Friendship Award 2019 was held in the Great Hall of the People. 100 foreign experts from 31 countries received the award. Timothy M. Kusky, American professor of CUG Wuhan, won the award and attended the Ceremony, and the 70th Anniversary celebrations in Beijing.

                     

On the afternoon of the same day, Premier LI Keqiang met with the award winners and their family members. Vice Premier Han Zheng attended the meeting.

LI offered congratulations to the awardees on behalf of the Chinese government and people, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to the country’s economic, scientific and social progress.

On October 1, Kusky was invited to the celebration of China’s 70th Anniversary on the Tian’anmen Square.

Kusky has been a distinguished professor at CUG since 2009 and is the current director of the Center for Global Tectonics. He is an outstanding expert in plate tectonics and early history or the earth, natural disasters and geohazards, satellite imagery and GIS, mineral and water resources as well as the relationship between man and nature. He has also contributed to the international cooperation and exchanges and education of young scientists of CUG.
