The closing ceremony of “National Science and Technology Week 2020” was held in the Hongshan Auditorium of Wuhan on August 29th. The “Crinoid 2.0”, a musical robot developed by CUG, performed during the red carpet welcome to 17 researchers, academicians and experts, enterprise representatives, and winners of the Scientific and Technological Outstanding Contribution Award of Hubei Province.
“Crinoid 2.0” is developed by the music technology team led by Associate Professor ZHOU Li from the School of Arts and Communication and Prof. CHEN Xin from the School of Automation. Based on the integration of robot design, machine vision, and trajectory planning and control of robot manipulators, the team designed a real-time robot control system based on ROS, which enables the robot to read music and play the hammered dulcimer.
With arms having 12 “degrees of freedom”, it is one of the most advanced music robots in China. It can read, compose, and play music intelligently, and it is promising in fields like science popularization education, musical instrument detection, art performances, music education, music production, and entertainment services.
In the closing ceremony, Crinoid completed a 40-minute performance with human music band, which was praised by the guests. XIAO Juhua, Vice Governor of Hubei Province, and WANG Wei, Director of the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province, watched the performance and communicated with the team members.
