Jul 24, 2024

The meeting of ITU (International Telecommunication Union)-T SG20: Internet of things (IoT) and smart cities and communities (SC&C) was held at Geneva from July 1 to 12, 2004. “Functional framework and requirements for disaster monitoring system” and “Metadata model of sensing capability for disaster monitoring system”, two standards mainly developed by CUG Prof.CHEN Nengcheng’s team, were approved and numbered Y.4226 and Y.4705. The official files will be released soon.

The two standards were initiated by Prof. Chen’s team in March 2017. They follow the “Functions and metadata of spatiotemporal information service for smart cities”(Y.4562), which was also initiated by Prof. Chen’s team in October 2021, becoming the second and third international standards developed by Chinese professionals in geomatics at the ITU. In addition, CUG Prof. CHEN Zeqiang received an award for his contribution to the ITU-T SG20.

Connecting the world since the dawn of the telegraph in 1865, the ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies, and it consists of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau, ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau(ITU-T), and ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau. The ITU-T assemble experts from around the world to develop international standards which act as defining elements in the global infrastructure of information and communication technologies. The ITU-T Study Group 20 is working to address the standardization requirements of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, with an initial focus on IoT applications in smart cities and communities (SC&C).
