The National Observatory of Geohazards in Badong of Hubei Province and CUG Yifu Museum are included in the first batch of 2021-2025 national science education bases by China Association for Science and Technology.
Relying on CUG’s academic advantages and the Comprehensive Field Test Site of Badong, the National Observatory of Geohazards in Badong of Hubei Province is established for both research and social service. Every year, on important days for science popularization like Earth Day, National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day, and International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, science popularization activities of geohazards, disaster prevention and reduction, land resources, the Earth, and protection of ecological environment are organized in Wuhan, Zigui, Badong, etc.
Serving as a think tank, the National Observatory works very closely together with the local government in training professionals of geohazards. It has provided 12 trainings for over 4,600 people in the past 5 years. Besides, it cooperates and shares science education resources with over 30 universities from home and abroad.
CUG Yifu Museum is a national second-class museum and the first museum of a university classified as an AAAA tourist attraction of China. Its exhibition halls of over 5,000 square kilometers, science popularization team of over 100 members, and over 20 original science courses highlight the advantages of it as a science education base.
CUG Yifu Museum has been carried out various science popularization activities since 2018, including over 70 exhibitions in Wuhan, over 20 summer (winter) camps in Yunnan and Hubei provinces, and over 70 expert lectures, which have benifited over 1.7 million people.
The National Science Education Base, meaning a public venue or facility that has functions of science education and popularization, is recognized by China Association for Science and Technology. A total of 800 organizations are recognized, among which 162 are museums, memorials, and exhibition halls.
