The Key Laboratory of Tectonics and Petroleum Resources held 2021 Academic Annual Conference & Academic Committee Conference on December 18. CUG leaders and the academic committee of the laboratory attended the conference.
CUG President WANG Yanxin delivered a speech, in which he expressed his gratitude to the members of the academic committee who have cared for and supported the development of the laboratory, and announced the list of the new academic committee. He hoped that the laboratory, under the guidance of the academic committee, will seize the opportunity at the critical stage of major adjustment, change, and transformation of the oil and gas exploration industry, carry out organized and forward-looking research, and strive to create a new situation for the development of the laboratory.

The five members of the academic committee made speeches of offshore oil and gas development, electricity transmission, alluvial uranium and oil & gas, etc.
During the discussion, the present members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professors made feasible suggestions on the future direction and strategic positioning of the laboratory. The members of the academic committee acknowledged the research achievements, innovative breakthroughs in geological theories, and contributions to energy services of the laboratory. They also expressed that they should understand the carbon neutrality correctly in order to grasp the future national energy demand and energy security, continue to bring into play the traditional advantageous disciplines of the laboratory while expanding new fields such as geothermal, associated resources, and carbon burial, and explore the integration with big data and artificial intelligence.
JIA Chengzao, chairman of the academic committee, said that the laboratory has technological accumulation in fields like eastern rift, continental margin of the South China Sea, oil and gas enrichment mechanism, and tectonogenic chronology. He hoped that the laboratory will take the initiative to target at the national demand and international frontiers, go deeper in deep dynamics and geothermal, and focus on the genesis mechanism of multi-energy resources, exploration technology innovation and key technology breakthroughs in the context of carbon neutrality, so as to become a first-class scientific research platform.
