In the 1st International Numerical Modeling Contest of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, the students from the School of Engineering won a first prize and outstanding contribution award, and CUG won an outstanding achievement award.
Based on the numerical simulation technology of rock engineering, the contest required each team to choose a rock fracturing problem or granular column collapse problem by themselves, design and produce the numerical model of the problem, and complete the numerical simulation report for the model. Guided by Prof. TAN Fei and Prof. ZHENG Fei from the School of Engineering, “Study on particle flow based on discrete element method” by students YOU Minglong, LIU Liping, and SHI Jingze won a first prize.
The contest was co-host by ISRM DDA Commission, CSRME DDA Commission, CUG, Tianjin University, Nanjing University, Beijing University of Technology, Hebei University of Technology, and other higher education institutions during the 11th Asian Rocks Mechanics Symposium. The contest encourages open, transparent and extensive validation by graduate students of existing numerical methods and software for rock mechanics problems, and provides a platform for sharing experimental and numerical results of rock mechanics problems.
