Delegation led by Uruguayan Ambassador to China Visits CUG

The delegation led by Fernando Lugris, Uruguayan Ambassador to China, and Leonardo Olivera D’Andrea, Consulate General of Uruguay in Shanghai visited CUG on May 25.

LAI Xulong, Vice President of CUG, welcomed Fernando Lugris and his delegation. LAI also introduced CUG and hoped to establish strategic partnerships with Uruguayan higher education institutions and research institutions in fields including new energy development, environmental protection, disaster prevention and mitigation, nature education, and biodiversity research.

Fernando Lugris said that Uruguay always regarded China as a trustworthy partner, and that Uruguay was the first MERCOSUR (Mercosur, Mercosul, or Ñemby Ñemuha, officially Southern Common Market) country to sign a memorandum of understanding with China on building “One Belt, One Road”. China and Uruguay have been cooperating in the fields of industry, sustainable energy, mining, marine, infrastructure and high technology, and will promote cooperation between Uruguayan universities and CUG in the fields of international student education, environmental protection, clean energy, minerals, marine, Antarctic research, and humanities.
