CUG Holds Annual Conference of Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Geological Resources

Apr 9, 2021

CUG held 2021 Annual Conference of Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Geological Resources on March 29 and 30. Three members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), CUG leaderships, and teachers and students from the School of Marine Science and Technology attended the conference.

CUG invited 17 scholars from the Second Institute of Oceanography, Minister of Natural Resources (MNR), Third Institute of Oceanography, MNR, Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology, MNR, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS, Peking University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Shanghai Ocean University, and Tianjin University of Commerce.

Professors and researchers talked about important scientific issues concerning West Pacific, Indian Ocean, and South China Sea, Southeast Asian annular subduction system, numerical simulation of genetic types and formation kinetics of marine natural gas hydrates, intersecting research on environmental engineering issues, marine seismic acoustic observation program, progress in exploitation ofmarine natural gas hydrates, marine oil and gas resources of China, exploration of deep-water oil and gas in the South China Sea, etc.

HUANG Xiaomei, Secretary of the Party Committee of CUG, issued letters of appointment to the members of the Academic Committee of Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Geological Resources.

Prof. XIE Xinong, Director of Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Geological Resources proposed a development mode of “one priority, two focuses, and three directions” which earned recognition among all the experts. Key members of the laboratory reported their research results ofmarine phytoplankton biological carbon sink, particle characterization and microforce measurement of natural gas hydrate system, deep geological processes of the Asian continental margin, dynamic boundary and continental margin basin system of the South China Sea, molecular spectroscopic techniques, and paleooceanography.

The members of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory also discussed academic development, talent recruitment, community service, and other aspects of the laboratory.
