Eight Female Students Sharing Dormitory All Obtain Postgraduate Recommendations

Oct 27, 2020

Eight female students from the School of Geography and Information Engineering, who had shared a dormitory, all obtained postgraduate recommendations on October 12, which meant that they gained admission to postgraduate programs without taking the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination. They will study further at CUG, Tongji University, Wuhan University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Beijing Normal University respectively.

Let’s find out more about them and what it’s like to live with straight-A roommates.

HUO Ran will continue her studies at CUG. It seems to HUO that her roommates drive her forward and warm her heart.

HUO always feels grateful for having the other girls as her roommates. In the beginning, she had difficulty in her studies and felt peer pressure from her excellent roommates. Her roommates encouraged her by waking her up, sharing ideas of course assignments with her, and answering her questions even during the busiest exam weeks.

LI Shuangyue, ranking fourth in her class, will move from the Nanwang Mountain Campus to Future City Campus for further studies. She said, “I embrace my past at the Nanwang Mountain Campus and look forward to my future at the Future City Campus”.

As a member of the Voluntary Association of CUG, she tried her best to strike a balance between learning and other activities, just like her roommates. “I’m not quite a self-disciplined person, so I would study in the library together with my roommates,” said LI. When it came to roommates, she had a lot to talk about. In their studies, they all worked very hard to keep up with the rest; in daily lives, they celebrated every one’s birthday and had chitchat before sleep. With all the time they spent together, their friendship has grown and deepened.

LI Zhen will study for her master’s degree in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at CUG. Her experience is that it is necessary to find one’s own pace of learning

She still remembered the day when she received her postgraduate recommendation, “I was very nervous at the moment, and when I found my name in the list, my roommates were even more thrilled than I was because I was the last one in our dorm to receive the recommendation.” Although they are all straight-A students, everyone has their own learning habits. LI said, “Some of us prefer keeping early hours while some usually burn the midnight oil to study, but we all try not to bother others.” She emphasized the importance of finding one’s own pace of learning, saying “For example, I would read over the textbook and buy exercise books in preparation for an exam. Also, make sure you pay attention in class. You may not understand it only by reading the textbook.

LUO Juanjuan majors in Geography and Information Engineering and will be a master’s student of Wuhan University. “Plan your life and define your goals” is LUO’s motto.

The experience gained from the activities and competitions she participated in shaped her. She also said that one should never give up learning since it was the best way to realize life goals. LUO learned a lot from her hard-working roommates, and they shared LUO’s happiness and sorrow, too. She often says that she is blessed to meet the best roommates in her best years.

CHEN Yiyang will continue her studies at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. She is strict with herself and expects bigger platforms.

In the past three years, she has acquired the fundamentals of C++ , MATLAB, and Python. Besides, she is capable of secondary development based on ENVI-IDL. She, with her classmates, won the Special Prize in 2019 Esri-Cup Chinese College Students GIS Software Development Contest. Like most students, the past 3 years has not all been smooth sailing for her, “The most important thing is to hold on when there is no hope in sight.”

MAO Yuxin is always inspired by “Do your best and never feel guilty”. Ranking second in her class with a 4.03 GPA, she will study further at Tongji University.

She built up her knowledge framework through mind mapping and found her own pace of learning. In addition, she enrolled in a TOEFL preparation class in her free time to improve her English. Her life is not all about studying. She has the same hobbies as most girls: she loves to catch up on TV dramas and travel. Speaking of her roommates, she said that the competition in studies and mutual encouragement among them were her driving force.

JIN Lin will study at Beijing Normal University. She believes that unity is the greatest strength.

Interested in news gathering and editing,s he joined the news department of CUG radio station. Although journalism had nothing to do with her major, she got her writing skills improved. She also worked as a volunteer in a school for the blind children on weekends. To her, the girls learning from and sharing experience with each other is part of her most precious memories.

FAN Siwen will continue to be a member of CUG in the following three years.

The conducive environment in the dormitory contributed to FAN’s obtaining of postgraduate recommendation. “When I see everyone working hard, I also put down my cellphone and pick up the book.” Her roommates would urge her to study from time to time and helped her when she needed. As the “Head of Dorm”, she set the rules, arranged room cleaning, and divided the public area and personal areas. What she did helped achieve the dorm harmony.

Those who always work hard shall live an extraordinary life. New beginnings and fresh starts are waiting for them, and they will seize the future and live it to the fullest.
