Dec 13, 2019

CUG students won 2 national first prizes, 3 national third prizes, 12 provincial first prizes, 11 provincial second prizes, and 18 provincial third prizes in the 2019 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM). CUG won an outstanding organizer award of the provincial contest.

The members of 2 teams which won 2 national first prizes were from the School of Geophysics and Geomatics and the School of Geology and Information Engineering. The 3 teams winning 3 national third prizes were made up of the students from the School of Earth Resources, the School of Computer Science, the School of Engineering, and the School of Mathematics and Physics.

The CUMCM is an annual contest organized by the CSIAM (China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) for undergraduates all over the world since 1992. In the year of 2019, 4,2992 teams (nearly 130,000 students) from 1490 higher education institutions (including campuses) from China, the US, and Maylasia participated in the contest.

CUG has always attached great importance to the CUMCM. With the Society of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, the training room for mathematical modeling, and the optional course in mathematical modeling, CUG fosters students’ ablities of innovation, practice, and teamwork.
