CUG Alumna ZHANG Miman Has Conversations with Teachers and Students in Zhoukoudian Field Training Base

On August 4, ZHANG Miman, CUG alumna, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and awardee of the L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Award, have a conversation with the representatives of the teachers and students at Zhoukoudian Field Training Base, LAI Xulong, vice president of CUG presided over the conversation.

In the conversation, LAI delivered a welcome speech and introduced the recent development of CUG. ZHANG extended greetings to CUG faculty and students, and she was excited to learn about the development of CUG.

ZHANG hoped that the students could learn geologist skills in Zhoukoudian Field Training Base, a “cradle” of geologists in China. Then she shared her life as a scientist and her passion about fossils.

She also encouraged the students to enjoy innovation and research by recalling some anecdotes about her fieldwork.

HUANG Xiaomei, secretary of the Party Committee of CUG, expressed gratitude for ZHANG’s concerns and support to CUG as well as admiration for her world-class achievements. What’s more, HUANG encouraged the students to learn from ZHANG.

ZHANG is a paleontologist at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology. In 1953, she was admitted to Beijing Institute of Geology (predecessor of China University of Geosciences); in 2016, she was given the Romer-Simpson Lifetime Achievement Award; in 2018, she received the L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Award.
