CUG International and Chinese Students New Year Gala, sponsored by the International Education College, the Youth League Committee and the Office of Student Affairs, was held in Hongyi Hall on December 28th, 2019. 130 international students from 80 countries and regions and 35 Chinese students participated in the gala. About 700 people from CUG community watched the performance.
Themed with "Chinese Heart, Silk Road Love" and divided into four chapters - exploration, transmission, close relationship, and win-win cooperation, the gala was designed to strengthen the mutual support and exchange among Chinese and foreign young students. It is hoped that young people from different countries share the good vision of further prosperity and development of countries along the "Belt and Road Initiative".
The gala started with the dance "Blossom" performed by students from Vietnam, Bangladesh, Madagascar, Nigeria, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, and Tanzania ; the song and dance "Family in the Distance" by students from Tajikistan, Yemen, Myanmar, Thailand and Pakistan and the fashion show where the audience appreciated the charm of diversified culture. Then, The Peking Opera "Ode to Pear Blossom" and antiphonal singing "Where has the time gone?" showed the interest and progress of international students in Chinese culture. In the performance "Where has the time gone?" international and Chinese students jointly wrote a famous line “The peach and the plum do not speak, yet a path is born beneath them- A man of sincerity attracts admiration”, showing their gratitude for the tireless Chinese calligraphy instructor ZHANG Jianguo. Three other songs “Chengdu", "With You", "Nation" jointly performed by international and Chinese students, expressing their profound friendship and mutual support, deeply moved the audience. The Dubbing of "Journey to the West" and the Chinese poetry recitation "What is China?" performed by several international students won the prolonged applause. With the performance of the music drama "A Letter", the international students told their loved ones at homecountries that everything was fine with study and life in China. And the song "On the Field of Hope" symbolized the win-win cooperation to build a community of shared future. Finally, the gala ended successfully with the chorus "Happy New Year".
