The “Song of Youth – National College Students Innovation Achievements Exhibition” co-organized by China’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture and Tourism, launched on April 29 at the National Museum of China. Among the highlights is the project “Infinite Selenium Hope” from CUG, selected as one of the five outstanding entries from Hubei province. The project focuses on delivering targeted selenium-enrichment solutions to underdeveloped regions, combining technological innovation with public welfare.

WU Yan, Vice Minister of Education, visited the CUG exhibition booth and commended the team’s progress, encouraging further scaling of the initiative to benefit broader communities.
Developed by the teachers and students from CUG’s School of Earth Sciences, “Infinite Selenium Hope” addresses critical selenium deficiency in soil—a widespread issue affecting agricultural productivity and public health. Over a decade of research, the team has secured 7 national patents, developed 9 certified rock and soil reference materials, and won the 2021 National Gold Award at the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition.
The project’s breakthroughs include advanced techniques for enhancing selenium uptake in crops such as rice and mushrooms. By tailoring selenium-enrichment strategies to regional soil conditions, the team has empowered farmers in economically disadvantaged areas to improve crop quality and market value, directly contributing to rural revitalization efforts.
As the National Museum of China’s inaugural “National Exhibition” of 2025, “Song of Youth” showcases 118 pioneering projects spanning quantum computing, AI, ecological restoration, healthcare, and more. The exhibition underscores the pivotal role of young innovators in addressing societal challenges, blending cutting-edge technology with grassroots applications.
