CUG’s Endeavors to Lead the Way as Eco-friendly University

Feb 28, 2024

In recent years, CUG has been striving to turn itself into a more eco-friendly university. Its excellence in water resource utilization and energy conservation & emission reduction builds on its reputation as a leading environmental campus in Hubei province and the country.

CUGs dedication to a better environment is embodied in various aspects.

CUG is teaching its students to carry on a lifelong commitment to being eco-friendly. It has interdisciplinary teaching and research teams such as “Earth+”, “Resources+”, “Green+” and “Governance+”, and offers courses like “Introduction to Ecology”, “Environmental Assessment and Restoration” and “Carbon Measurement and Carbon Management”.

CUG started to offer “Introduction to Ecology” and other courses in nature in the Fall Semester 2019.

CUG encourages its teachers and students in ecological conservation endeavors, including the “Yangtze River Program in Earth Science”. At the same time, capitalizing on its four field study centers located in Beidaihe, Zhoukoudian, Zigui, and Badong, as well as events like “Earth Day”, it often organizes educational and practical science activities. What’s more, the CUG Museum has earned recognition as a national base for science education.

On April 20, 2023, on the occasion of the 54th Earth Day, CUG held an opening ceremony for the Earth Day Themed Week.

CUG also places “green campus” at the forefront by operating China’s first on-campus carbon neutrality initiative. Taking the Future City Campus as an example, a “near-zero carbon” framework is implemented there, and the energy-saving technology and intelligent management system are used for reducing emissions.

CUG will continue to make a difference by fostering eco-friendly education, discovering answers to important environmental questions, promoting green campus operations, empowering students and staff to act on environmental protection, and making being a eco-friendly university a strategic priority.
