CUG holds the Workshop on Research Projects of Geothermal Geosciences Development Strategies on November 6. The 15 experts in geothermal geosciences participated in the workshop.
CUG President WANG Yanxin made an opening speech. PANG Zhonghe, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Prof. GUO Qinghai from the School of Environmental Studies informed the audience of the background and significance of the workshop.
The experts from CUG, the CAS, China University of Petroleum-Beijing, Jilin University, Shandong Provincial Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources, and other institutions made their suggestions for Geothermal Energy Geosciences Development Strategies.
WANG Jiyang, a member of the CAS, summarized the workshop and proposed that Geothermal Energy Geosciences Development Strategies should “cover the foundation of geothermal energy geosciences and be forward-looking”.
Geothermal energy is a continuous and clean non-carbon-based renewable energy source, the development and utilization of which is expected to play an important role in helping China peak its CO2 emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. At present, China’s geothermal industry ranks first in the world in terms of total heat utilization, but there is still a gap between China and other countries in terms of high-temperature geothermal power generation and deep geothermal energy development & utilization technologies, so research on geothermal energy geosciences needs to be strengthened.
