Nov 10, 2021

The Inauguration of China-Pakistan Friendship Square was held on the Hankou River Beach on November 2 marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. At the invitation of Hubei Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and Department of Education, the representatives of CUG teachers and students witnessed the historic moment.

Moin ul Haque, Pakistani Ambassador to China, and CUG teachers and students

The square features cultural elements from both countries. On either side of the square are sculptures of the Chinese sturgeon, and the Markhor, the national animal of Pakistan. Haque said, “The square truly reflects the great affinity, the great solidarity and most importantly the deep love, trust and respect between our two countries and peoples. In response to this friendship square, Pakistan will launch a China-Pakistan Friendship Square in Karachi soon.”

Haque talks with Pakistani students from CUG

After the inauguration, Haque talked with CUG teachers and students. ZHANG Mu, a Pakistani PhD student from the School of Mathematics and Physics, shared their experiences in 2020 when CUG’s teachers and international students fight against the pandemic together with Haque. Haque spoke highly of them and thanked the Chinese government and CUG for taking care of the Pakistani students in the difficult time. “Pakistan and China are good partners and brothers. I hope you can really learn things in China and return home to contribute to Pakistan after graduation,” he added.
