CUG Operates National Geohazards Observatory in Three Gorges Reservoir Area in Partnership with CTGC

CUG’s Geology Engineering has been consistently ranked number one of universities in China. The Three Gorges Research Center for Geohazards of CUG has been devoted to geohazards research since its establishment in 2008. Forming a partnership with CTGC (China Three Gorges Corporation), CUG has stepped up to a new level in geohazards research. CUG Geohazards Observatory in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area has been designated a National Geohazards Observatory in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area by the Ministry of Science and Technology on December 28, 2020. It is the first National Observatory affiliated with CUG.

National Observatories are a significant component of the scientific and technological innovation of the country. The National Observatory of Geohazards in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area will play a leading role in the research on the mechanism of geohazards and the prevention and control technologies, providing important observational data and scientific support for the operation of large reservoirs in China as well as the national macro-level decision-making on disaster reduction and prevention.
