The 1st National Chemistry Experiment Innovation and Design Competition for College Students was held from October 11 to 13. CUG team consisted of WANG Han, QIE Haofei, and CAO Huaiyuan from the School of Materials Science and Chemistry, who took part in the competition and won the first prize.
The item of CUG entered for the competition was “Colorimetric method for the detection of uric acid by gold nanoparticles based on hydrogen bonding”. Through controlling the concentration of sodium citrate solution to synthesize gold nanoparticles of specific particle size, and based on hydrogen bonding and the change in the color of the solution due to the degree of gold nanoparticles aggregation, uric acid can be detected visually. It is a new way to detect uric acid with the potential to solve the problems like high cost, fast inactivation, and complicated procedures of the enzyme assay. During the competition, the panel of judges approved of CUG students.
90 Higher education institutions of the country entered the competition, and every institution could recommended one team. 10 teams won the special prize, 20 teams got the first prize, and 35 teams took the second prize.
