About the program:

The International Education College of CUG accepts international students from all over the world for full-time language program. The program adopts small-class teaching, with about 20 students in each class. Three levels of courses (primary level, primary-intermediate level and intermediate level) are offered according to the scores of the Chinese language grouping test. The course length, which is routinely one semester or one school year with 4 class hours each day and 20 per week, can be extended, as appropriate, to no more than 4 semesters. The certificate and transcript will be issued at the end of the studying period.

To encourage students to learn more about Chinese history and culture, the international education college provides optional courses featuring in CUG’s disciplinary characteristics such as “Chinese tourism and intangible cultural heritage”, “Geology and geography in China”, “Multicultural understanding” and “Chinese culture and history”, as well as the language & culture social practice activities such as calligraphy, paper-cutting, tea art and seal-cutting. Meanwhile, to ensure efficient teaching and learning, the pre-exam training classes of HSK are provided for free, which is flexible for students to choose.

Program features:

1.With the studying period of 1 year, students will not only have a good grasp of spelling & pronunciation of Chinese phonetic alphabet, 1500 commonly-used words and 180 pieces of linguistic knowledge, but also be well equipped with abilities to communicate in Chinese, to apply the gained knowledge to solving basic problems in daily life.

2.A series of courses of Chinese language, optional courses themed Chinese culture and linguistics are provided; there are free pre-exam training classes for students and they will surely pass the HSK4 through two terms’ study.

3.Students who perform well during the program will gain a priority in CSC scholarship recommendation.

Eligibility:

Non-Chinese citizens aged 18-30 (students over the age of 30 need to submit study plan in detail), in good health, with high school or higher education certificates, with valid foreigner passports.

Language requirements:

No requirements for Chinese language proficiency.

Application procedures:

1. Apply online.

Visit and register at the website http://admission.cug.edu.cn, select “Chinese Language Program for international students”, complete the application form, upload the following documents, submit and print out the application form.

2.Submit the hard copy of application documents.

(1) Application form of Chinese Language Program for international students. After online application, please print out the hard copy and attach a photo to it;

(2) Notarization of the highest education certificates (the original one or the notarized one in Chinese or English);

(3) At least one recommendation letter from where you are studying or working (original copy, written in Chinese or English);

(4) Photocopy of valid passport;

(5) Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy);

(6) Photocopy of the valid passport pages and residence permit;

(7) Copy of payment or transfer receipt of application fees;

(8) Other additional documents (e.g. language proficiency certificates).

Note: application documents will not be returned.

(9)  Students over the age of 30 need to submit study plan in detail.

Application fee: 400RMB. No returns.

Note: Other currencies or traveler’s cheques are not accepted. The application which is incomplete or unpaid will not be accepted.

Application time:

Fall semester: from 1st April to 15th June

Please send all required documents to the Admission and Program Development Office, International Education College before the deadline. The date on the postmark shall be regarded as the actual date of making application.

Admission policy

The enrollment is based on the performance of application documents. The admission notice and JW202 form shall be sent by 10th July. Please register in CUG according to enrollment time on the admission notice. The grouping test shall be arranged after the welcome meeting.

（1）Tuition fee excludes the cost of books.

（2）Tuition fee shall be paid upon registration and it is nonrefundable for any reason.

（3）After registration, all the students will purchase China's health insurance.
